The Trimley Estate extends to 1,375 ha (3,400 acres) and is the largest single landholding in the Felixstowe peninsula. It has been owned by Trinity College, Cambridge, since 1933 and is held as a commercial investment whose purpose is to financially support its educational role.

Once a wholly agricultural estate, the Trimley Estate has been transformed into a multi-faceted estate where farming, the local port and commerce, housing, leisure pursuits and nature conservation all thrive side by side. The College has managed the land for agriculture, improved wildlife habitats and identified land for appropriate commercial and housing development.

Much of the land on which the Port of Felixstowe sits is owned by the Estate, and the Port and related facilities are the primary source of revenue.  From the start, the College appreciated that the success of the Estate as a long-term investment lay in providing infrastructure, facilities and services for the port. This partnership between the Trimley Estate and the Port of Felixstowe has underpinned the growth and success of the port and many local businesses to the benefit of the residents of Felixstowe and surrounding villages.
